The fool hath said in his heart, There is no God. They are
corrupt, they have done abominable works, there is none that doeth good. (Psa
14:1)
The simplistic view of Godlessness is to express that this is
confined to heathens. The Psalmist
is saying that those who speak thus in their heart is a foolish. We can defend
the existence of God through speech and writing, but in our heart?
What our heart says proclaims the existence of God or not by external expression.
Our heart can deny God’s existence when our speech is crude, full of
curses, unbelief and all that is negative, as though God will not judge our
mouth. We say that there is no God in our heart by our private vile thoughts and
actions, as long as we are not caught and exposed in public. We deny God’s
being in our heart when we are bitter, unthankful and behave as though God and
the world owe us a living.
